”銃は貴重品だ。”とジョンが言う、Ｔ・レイがマムーリに”見張ってろ”と言った。パントゥーチが何かに夢中になっているのを見て、ジョンが”それなんだ？”と尋ねた。 ”ピーナツ？”と聞き返すジョンに、”そうさ”とパントゥーチが言う、ジョンが”落とすなよ”と言った。その時、パントゥーチがピーナツを落としてしまう、そして”クソ、落とした”と叫んだ。何かの物音がしてＴ・レイは銃を構えて通路を確認する、そして改めて”誰だ？”と声をかけた。 ”出てこないと撃つぞ”とＴ・レイが警告する、ほっとした時、天井から配線が落ちてきて驚いていた。 ”Ｔ・レイ、何してるんだ？”とマムーリが声をかける、Ｔ・レイは何かのうめき声を聞いて、再び銃を構えた。そして膝丈まで海水に浸かりながら通路を探っていく、水の中から何かが吹き上げてきた。 ”あれは何だ？”とＴ・レイが呟いた時、何かがＴ・レイを海水に引き込んでいった。 Ｔ・レイの叫び声を聞いてジョン達は作業を止める、天井配管に血が吹き飛んでいた。 ”Ｔ・レイ？”とマムーリが声をかける、そして”何をした”とパントゥーチに尋ねた。 ”答えろ”と言ってマムーリがパントゥーチに迫る、パントゥーチが”撃つな”と言った。ジョンが”別に何も”と答える、そして銃に手を伸ばそうとしたジョンにマムーリは銃口を向けた。 ”落ち着け”とジョンが言う、その時、部屋の中に金属がきしむ大きな音が響いた。船内を探っていたトリリアンは散乱した室内を見て”何があったの？”と呟いた。そして金庫のモニターのスイッチを入れる、そこにハノーバーたちが入って来た。モリガンが”メスだ”と言う、トリリアンが”一般の人は立ち入り禁止よ”と答えた。 ”事務所の助手として私は…、”と言って出て行こうとするトリリアンを押さえてハノーバーが尋ねた。 ”寝てるんじゃ…”とトリリアンが答える、ハノーバーが拳銃をトリリアンに向けた。トリリアンが”乗客のトリリアン、あなたは誰？”と答える、ヴィーヴォがトリリアンのＩＤカードを奪った。 ”あげるわ”とトリリアンが答える、ハノーバーが”船で何があった？、乗客は？”とトリリアンに聞き直した。ヴィーヴォがＩＤカードをモニターに挿入する、モリガンが”爆破はなし？”と尋ねた。ヴィーヴォが扉の前に立つ、扉が開いて”よし、金はいただきだ”と言った時、いきなり斧で頭を割られた。ヴィーヴォが床に倒れる、怒ったモリガンが自動小銃で金庫室の中を銃撃した。何人かの乗客が残っていてモリガンの銃撃を受けて倒れていく、モリガンは銃撃を続けるメイスンを留めた。 ”何てコトを”とアサートン船長が呟く、ハノーバーが”クソッたれ”と叫んだ。金庫室に入ったモリガンがキャントンに掴み掛かる、そしてメイスンが”早く外に出ろ”と命令した。 ”化け物かと思って”とキャントンが言い訳する、”よくも部下を”と言ってハノーバーが銃を向けた。 ”間違えた。”とキャントンが答える、アサートン船長が”乗客を殺したな、おまえたちは何者だ？”と聞いた。言い合いになった隙を突いてトリリアンがその場を離れていく、モリガンが”何と間違えた？”と聞いた。キャントンが叫ぶ、その時ハノーバーの無線にマムーリから連絡が入った。ハノーバーが”大声で、聞こえないぞ”と応える、マムーリが”黙って聞け”と叫んだ。ジョンが”逃げよう、何かがいる”と叫ぶ、マムーリが”黙ってろ、ムダ口を叩くな。”と怒鳴りつけた。そして”ビクつくんじゃねぇと言って”マムーリは銃口を向ける、その時マムーリが海水に引き込まれた。マムーリが投げた銃をジョンが受け取る、マムーリは海水の中を引きずり回されていた。そして何度かパイプに当たってマムーリは流血する、最後に水の中に引き込まれていった。銃を構えたジョンがパントゥーチに叫ぶ、そして叫び声を聞いたジョンが銃を撃ち始めた。パントゥーチが必要な機械部品を集める、その様子が無線でハノーバーに届いていた。ハノーバーの呼びかけに応答がない、キャントンが”化け物はそこら中にいる、逃げよう”とハノーバーに言った。 ”金庫室は？”と尋ねるメイスンに、”逃げやしないヴィーヴォの銃を持て”とハノーバーが言った。ジョンが銃を乱射しながら通路を逃げる、パントゥーチが”一体、何だ？”と叫んでいた。 ”よく見えなかった”とジョンが応える、そして”部品は？”とパントゥーチに尋ねた。海水の中に明らかに気配を感じる、波打った海水に向けてジョンが銃を乱射した。何かが床板を跳ね上げて近づいてくる、ジョンが”走れ”と叫んでその場から駆け出した。ジョンとパントゥーチは部屋に飛び込む、そして扉を閉めて何を逃れた。エレベーターに乗り込んだトリリアンは上に向かうつもりだったがエレベーターが下降していく。 ２階にやって来たエレベーターを緊急ボタンを引いて止める、エレベーターが緊急停止した。その時、エレベータの天井から何かを叩きつける大きな音が聞こえる、トリリアンは怯えた。緊急ボタンを押してエレベーターが下降していく、扉の向こうから謎の泣き声が聞こえてきた。扉が開いてトリリアンは靴で何かを叩きつける、それは乗り込んできたパントゥーチだった。その後からジョンが現れる、”外に出して”と暴れるトリリアンを抱えて、ジョンはエレベーターに乗った。ジョンが叫ぶ、パントゥーチが鼻を押さえながら、エレベーターのボタンを押していた。 ”君は誰だ？”と言うジョンにトリリアンが”あなたは？”と聞き返す、パントゥーチが”鼻が折れた”と言った。パントゥーチが”あんまりだぞ”と嘆く、その時、エレベーターの天井から物音がしてジョンが銃を構えた。トリリアンが答える、６階のドアが開くと、ハノーバーたちが銃を向けてきた。 ”２人とも銃を捨てろ。”とハノーバーがジョンに叫ぶ、メイスンも”捨てるんだ”と言って威嚇してきた。パントゥーチが銃を床に捨てる、ジョンも銃を捨て、トリリアンが握っていた靴を捨てた。ジョンが”死んだ”と答える、”何があった？”と尋ねるハノーバーにジョンが”この船に何かいる”と言った。 ”ウソだ”と答えるハノーバーに、”ハノーバー、本当にいる”とキャントンが叫んだ。ジョンが”知り合いか？”と尋ねる、アサートン船長がエレベーターの扉を閉めた。モリガンがジョンに飛び掛る、ジョンが股間を蹴り上げてモリガンが床にうずくまった。ハノーバーが”黙れ”とジョンに銃を突きつける、そして船長に”何が起きた”と尋ねた。アサートン船長が答える、”どんな？”と言うハノーバーに”あんな化け物ははじめて見た”と船長が言った。キャントンが首を振る、その時、エレベーターに衝撃が走り、急激に下降し始めた。エレベーターが止まり、今度はゆっくりと上昇を始めた。 〈２階です、３階です、４階です。 ５階です、６階です。 〉 何か物音がしてエレベーターが揺すられる、そして音楽が流れ始めた。 ”これは何だ？”と言うジョンに、パントゥーチが”イパネマの娘”と答えた。 ”ねえ、降りてもいいかしら”とトリリアンが声をかける、ジョンが”それは名案”と言った。だがエレベーターの扉が開かない、その時、上のほうから生き物の叫び声が聞こえた。 ”ヤバイ”とジョンが叫んだ瞬間、ロープが切れてエレベーターが急降下し始めた。そして一気に地下３階までエレベーターが落下する、扉が開いて外にジョンが投げ出された。起き上がってエレベーターの外に出ると、廊下がおびただしい血で真っ赤に染まっていた。そしてどろどろに解けた骨だけの遺体が転がっている、壁は血にまみれ床は骨で埋め尽くされていた。 ”これは何だ？”とアサートン船長が叫ぶ、トリリアンがパントゥーチに”銃を拾って”と命令した。銃を拾おうとしたジョンの銃にハノーバーが足を置く、そして”銃に触るな”と警告した。その時、隣の区画を仕切る鉄の扉が音を立てて歪み始める、モリガンとメイスンが銃を構えた。モリガンが”ウソだろ？”と呟く、目の前で扉のヒンジが外れて飛んできて、ジョンが”お次は何だ？”と言った。鉄の壁が何かに押されて歪み始める、ハノーバーがジョンに銃を渡した。すると壁への圧力がなくなって静かになる、ジョンとハノーバーが近づいていった。床には肉が解けて骨だけになった人骨が散乱している、メイスンが頭蓋骨を踏み潰して声をあげた。それをきっかけに鉄の壁に圧力がかかって歪み始め、水道管から水が噴出してきた。ジョンとハノーバーが銃を乱射しながら交代する、トリリアンとパントゥチーも逃げ出した。どんどん通路の壁が何かの圧力で潰されていく、ジョンとハノーバーは銃弾を撃ち込んでいた。隣の区画に逃げ込んだハノーバーを確認して、ジョンが扉を閉めた。船の外で待機していたビリーがサイパン号の船倉にやってくる、そして”筋肉女”と声をかけた。だが船倉から返事がなくレイラの気配がない、ビリーが”隠れるのはよせ”と言った。ビリーは船の右舷に開いた穴に何かを見つけて、近づいていった。機械室に逃げ込んだメイスンとモリガンが銃を構えて警戒する、それに続いてキャントンたちが入って来た。 「座礁したかのように急に船が止まったんだ、そしたら化け物がそこら中に」 キャントンが説明する、アサートン船長も”打つ手はなかった”と答えた。 ”脱出する暇も”とキャントンが言う、”問題は救難信号を遅れなかったことだ”と船長が言った。トリリアンが作業者の服を見繕いながら船長に提案する、パントゥーチも”海兵隊に”と言った。メイスンが”すぐ送れ”と叫ぶ、だが船長が”何かが通信装置をダメにした”と答えた。ジョンが答える、そしてキャントンに向かって”おまえは誰だ？”と言った。 ”ハノーバーの仲間が通信装置をパアにした”とジョンが言う、そして”その仲間とはおまえだ。”と言った。キャントンが笑う、ハノーバーが”観察力が鋭いな”とジョンを褒めた。アサートン船長が”本当か？”と驚く、”どうやって修復を？”とジョンが尋ねた。拳銃に手を伸ばそうとしたキャントンの手をハノーバーが押さえる、ジョンが”通信装置の修復は？”と聞き直した。 パントゥーチが”おまえの計算違いの犠牲か？”と怒鳴りつける、”市場調査の失敗さ”とキャントンが答えた。そう尋ねるジョンに、キャントンは”乗客もクルーも安全に避難する筋書きだった”と答えた。そしてジョンを指差して”そう言うおまえは密輸屋だろ？”と言った。アサートン船長が”この腹黒い犯罪者め、金のために我々を…”とキャントンに掴み掛かった。つかみ合いになる2人の間にハノーバーが割って入った。着替えをしたトリリアンがテーブルにそっと近づく、そして置いてある拳銃をジーンズの背中に隠した。ジョンがトリリアンの背中にチラッと目をやる、トリリアンが”何よ？”とジョンに言った。その時、天井から何かが滴り落ちてきてパントゥーチの肩に落ちる、パントゥーチが手で触れて見上げる。そこにタコの足のような巨大な生き物が現れてパントゥーチが叫び声をあげた。巨大なタコ足が天井近くを這い回る、ジョンが持っていた自動小銃でタコ足に銃弾を撃ちこんだ。タコ足から飛び散った体液が当たりに散って降りかかる、そして膨れていたところが裂けて何かが落ちてきた。 ”あれは何だ？”とメイスンが叫ぶ、落ちてきた人間らしいものが立ち上がった。そして叫び声をあげながら振り返る、体の半分がすでに解けて肉が失われて骨が露出していた。モリガンが”ビリーだ”と気付く、ビリーは叫び声をあげながら倒れて絶命していた。 ”クソ、あんまりだ”とメイスンが叫ぶ、まだ天井を這い回るタコ足にジョン達は銃弾を浴びせた。天井のあちらこちらにタコ足が伸びている、”そこら中にいる”と叫んで銃弾を撃ち込んだ。パントゥーチが手にした自動小銃に向かって叫ぶ、だが突然銃弾が飛び出してパントゥーチは腰を抜かした。ジョンが移動していると通路の角でトリリアンとぶつかりそうになる、ジョンが言った。その時、得体の知れない化け物の鳴き声が響く、ジョンがあたりを警戒した。 ”あれは何？”とトリリアンが尋ねる、ジョンが”友達じゃない”と答えた。トリリアンが尋ねる、そしてジョンに”取引しましょ、乗せてくれたら…”と交渉し始めた。ジョンが”俺に望みの物を？”と言う、トリリアンが”そう、何でもあげる”と答えた。その時、2人の間にタコ足の化け物が姿を現す、ジョンが床に倒れこんだ。タコ足の先端は感覚を持っているらしく、ボイラーのハンドルを確かめているようだった。ジョンが気付かれないようにそっと落とした自動小銃に手を伸ばす、タコ足がジョンに気付いた。そして足の先端を開いていく、中から無数の触手のついた口が出てきた。床を這って逃げるジョンに触手の口が迫ってくる、その時、銃弾がその口を吹き飛ばした。背後からトリリアンが拳銃でタコ足に銃弾を打ち込んでいる、タコ足が逃げていった。トリリアンはジョンに駆け寄って”急いで”と声をかける、ジョンも自動小銃を拾って駆け出した。立ち止まったトリリアンに”君に借りが”とジョンが言う、トリリアンが”大きな貸しよ”と答えた。ジョンが”分かった”と答える、トリリアンが”約束を守るタイプ？”と尋ねた。 ”信用しろ。”とジョンが答える、そしてハシゴを上って行った。逃げ出したキャントンの目の前で、アサートン船長が足をタコ足につかまれていた。 ”今、行くぞ”と言ってジョンが駆け寄る、そしてトリリアンと一緒に船長を引っ張りあげた。だが船長はタコ足の先端にある触手のついた口に飲み込まれ、そのまま連れ去られてしまった。ジョンがタコ足に向かって自動小銃を打ち込む、モリガンも”食らえ”と言って銃弾を撃ち込んだ。ハノーバーが叫ぶ、キャントンが”カンブリア紀に生息していた肉食性ワームの一種だと思う”と答えた。それを聞いてパントゥーチが”ミミズの親類か、なら安心だよ”と言った。 「水深1200メートルでは鉛筆ほどの体長で頭もゴルフボール程度。」 そしてキャントンは、”だが6000メートルではサメを食う大きさだ、12000メートルでは…計算は任せる”と言った。トリリアンが”最悪の化け物だわ”という、パントゥーチが”突然変異して現代に？”と尋ねた。メイスンが”どうやって殺すか分かればいい”という、キャントンが答えた。 水面に上がったモリガンを、ハッチからジョンとハノーバーが引き上げた。 残っていたパントゥーチが”合図はまだか？”と尋ねる、メイスンが答えた。 「俺は腰抜け野郎じゃねえが、マジに怖くなってきた。」 息苦しくなってきたパントゥーチが”喘息って、うつるのか？、それとも先天的？”とトリリアンに尋ねた。 その時、背後から音がしてタコ足のような触手が渦巻きながら迫ってくる、パントゥーチが鉄扉を閉じた。 鉄扉が叩きつけられて部屋が揺れる、怖くなったキャントンが海中に飛び込んだ。 メイスンが銃を構えながら”来るならきやがれ！”と叫ぶ、すると鉄扉が吹き飛んて触手が進入してきた。 そして口を開けて迫ってくる、驚いたパントゥーチとトリリアンが銃を向けて乱射した。 トリリアンは勢い余って海中に転落する、化け物の触手が銃弾で粉々になっていた。 そして、口を失った触手が元来た道を引き返していく、”もうイヤだ”と言ってメイスンも海中に飛び込んだ。 メイスンは銃を海中に落としたことも気付かずハッチを目指して泳いでいく。 だが背後から迫った触手に捕まって引きずられて行く、メイスンは手榴弾のピンを抜いて自爆していた。 ハッチから爆弾の勢いで海水が噴出す、パントゥーチが顔を出してジョンが引き上げた。 ハノーバーが”メイスンは？”と尋ねる、パントゥーチが”やられた”と答えた。 モリガンが”あいつまで？、1人ずつ減っていく”と悔しがる、そして”次の犠牲者は誰だ？”と叫んだ。 ”ここからは？”とジョンが尋ねると、キャントンが”エレベーターがある”と指をさす。 パントゥーチが”エレベーターはゴメンだ”と言う、トリリアンが”私も同感”と言った。 だがモリガンが振り向くと別の触手が口を開いている、モリガンは頭から触手の口に飲み込まれてしまった。 部屋を逃げ出したジョンが通路を進んでいく、すると目の前で鉄扉が閉じられて鍵をかけられた。 トリリアンが”大変、閉められたわ”と叫ぶ、通路に繋がる鉄扉が次々と閉められていく、パントゥーチが叫んだ。 通路を逃げていくと行く手が遮られる、キャントンが”ワナだ”と叫んだ。 ”誘導してる”とジョンが言う、パントゥーチが”考える化け物か？”と驚いた。 ”船首に向かわせている”とキャントンが言う、トリリアンが”船首に何があるの？”と呟いた。 ジョンが銃を構えながら通路を進む、”どっちだ？”と尋ねるとキャントンが答えた。 ジョンが促されるまま通路を進んでいく、立ち止まっているキャントンにトリリアンが”来ないの？”と尋ねた。 メガネを取って苦しそうにするキャントンが”すぐ後から行く”と答える。 そして誰もいなくなったのを確かめて、キャントンは別の通路に向かい始めた。 通路を進んでいたジョンが広いエンジンルームに出る、そこは骨だけになった人骨が山のように詰まれていた。 パントゥーチが”こりゃ何だい？”と呟く、ジョンが”多分、エサ場だ”と答えた。 ハノーバーが”行き止まりだな”と言って”キャントンはどこ行った？”と尋ねた。 The group reaches the ballroom only to find blood and no sign of the passengers. Finnegan and Joey go to the ship’s workshop to scavenge parts to repair the boat, under the guard of T-Ray and Mamooli. T-Ray goes off to investigate strange noises and is torn to shreds by the creature. Canton theorizes that the creatures are an extreme evolution of the Ottoia, which drain their victims of their bodily fluids and then eject the carcasses. The survivors flee, but Mason is grabbed and kills himself by detonating a grenade. Mulligan elects to stay behind in the crew’s galley until a rescue party can arrive.
